Planned activities for the week of September 5th include ongoing earthworks within the Tailings Management Facility and within the natural gas pipeline area, drilling, blasting, foundation work and steel erection for various buildings within the Plant Site area, drilling, blasting and placement of rock for the Highway 11 Realignment, onsite power distribution and drilling and blasting at the open pit.
What's coming next:
Greenstone Mine wishes to advise the public that open pit activities are underway and will consist of regularly scheduled blasts. Greenstone Mine will be conducting scheduled blasts within the Open Pit Area, the Project Area and within the Highway 11 Realignment Area. Blasting will occur on a regular basis during the construction and operations phases of the Project. Blasting Notices are posted on the website homepage.
‘No Trespassing’ signs within the former Barton Bay Trail area due to work activities being undertaken for the construction of the Highway 11 Realignment have been installed for everyone’s safety as this work continues. With the MacLeod High Tailings pump well building in place, pumping of historical tailings water to the Temporary Effluent Water Treatment Plant is underway. Earthworks in the Kenogamisis Pit, located North of Highway 11 behind Between Bridges Inn, will continue with loading, blasting and hauling of pit run material to the future Plant Site area as needed. Concrete formwork is ongoing within the future Process Plant east end, while west end steel erection and cladding continue. Concrete and steel erection are ongoing at the Crusher and continue at the High Pressure Grinding Rolls. Power Plant interior work and work on the outside auxiliary systems is ongoing. Structural steel erection and cladding work for the Truck Shop continue. At the Effluent Water Treatment Plant, commissioning activities continue to progress well. Power distribution work continues in the Plant Site and Tailings Management Facility (TMF) areas as well as along Michael Power Boulevard. Earthworks continue and drilling and blasting has commenced for the installation of the site natural gas distribution piping. Formwork for conveyors continues.
Ongoing hauling of material from the S4 Aggregate Pit to the Goldfield Creek Dam. Construction of the sand blanket and various water retention ponds and ditches within the TMF is ongoing.
Drilling, blasting and crushing within the future Highway 11 Realignment footprint (west side) will continue. Placement of materials continues for the Michael Power Boulevard ramps. With the Michael Power Boulevard Crossing in use, motorists are asked to obey the 60 km/h maximum speed limit and to proceed with caution.
At the future MTO Patrol Yard interior work continues in the Garage / Office building. Installation of panels for the Salt Dome and Sand Shed is nearing completion.
Mine mobile equipment components continue to arrive. Assembly of the first two mine haul trucks is complete and work is ongoing on the third and fourth. Assembly of the shovel is nearing completion.
Construction in and around Greenstone Mine involves the use of heavy equipment such as haul trucks, zoom booms, cranes, drills, excavators, skidders, wood chippers, bulldozers, tri-axle haul trucks, articulated trucks and loaders. For health and safety reasons, we caution the general public to follow and obey all posted signs across the Project area.
The safety of our employees, contractors and the general public is paramount as we construct the Greenstone Mine.
